GCSE Coursework

Year 11 students: you are reminded that your potential for success in your GCSE examination will be severely hindered if you do not complete your coursework assignments.

Coursework surgeries will be available after school in A8 - watch the noticeboards for details.

If you are worried about the deadlines, please see me URGENTLY to discuss them.

The assessment for the AQA GCSE in Media Studies is set up like this:

Coursework A: 25%

Three assignments, each of which is split into three parts:

  • A 700-800 word essay which demonstrates your understanding of different Media Studies theories and concepts.
  • A practical production piece which demonstrates your ability to apply what you have learned
  • A supporting account which evaluates your production in relation to the texts and concepts you have studied.

During your course at Sandringham, you have undertaken the following coursework projects:

Coursework B: 25%

A fully realised practical production, together with a supporting account of 700-800 words. Year 11 students work on this between September and Christmas.

This is such a significant project that it has its own section on this website.

To help you meet the assessment requirements of Section B, download the student-friendly mark scheme.

Controlled Test: 50%

AKA your summer exam! Each year the exam is themed: In 2008 (current Year 11s) the topic is Situation Comedy. In 2009 (for current Year 10s) it will be Quiz Shows.

This is a three-hour paper with a combination of essay questions and practical tasks. You will spend most of the spring term and the start of the summer preparing for this challenge.

The Controlled Test is a pre-release paper: you will be issued with it early in May and will have approximately two weeks to prepare your detailed response.
